Placental Benefits
The placenta is usually seen as a waste product, to be got rid of after birth. Yet it is full of nutrients and hormones that can be beneficial to the new mother and baby and consuming the placenta (as so many other mammals do) produces many positive results. It is very effective at preventing the 'baby blues' (which can lead to postnatal depression) as the placenta contains essential nutrients such as vitamin B6 and the stress-reducing hormone CRH, a lack of which has been linked to postnatal depression. It contains the hormone oxytocin which encourages bonding in the mother, and helps stimulate uterine contractions and prevent post-partum haemmorhage. Placentas are also rich in zinc which, like oxytocin, helps women bond with their babies. Consuming placenta been shown to enhance lactation; a study administered dried placenta to new mothers and 86.2% of them noticed an increase in milk supply. Dried human placenta is also used to treat insufficient lactation in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Scientific research supports the use of dried human placenta in this way, showing a significant increase in milk production with placenta over placebo. Placentas are rich in proteins which are essential for growth and repair so extremely beneficial post-birth. They contains high levels of prostaglandins which stimulate the uterus to shrink back to its pre-pregnant size. They help restore essential nutrients lost during childbirth (including iron which is important when you consider that women lose 1/8-1/10 of their blood supply during birth), slow postpartum bleeding and raise energy levels (a hugebenefit to a worn out new mum!).
Placenta Encapsulation
The service I offer involves my collecting your placenta from your home or the hospital where you have birthed and making it into easy to swallow capsules for use following birth. An average placenta will make between 100 and 150 capsules (although I have had placentas that make as many as 260!) and I will either deliver them to your home personally or arrange for them to be sent to you via Royal Mail Special Delivery. I can also arrange to have some of it made into homeopathic remedies for mother and baby. Should there be any left over, the capsules can be stored in the freezer for use during the menopause.

Encapsulation and postal delivery, up to radius of 30 miles from Ely - £140 plus £6 postage

Feedback on placenta encapsulation:
"Swift and easy process and capsules delivered within days. Have felt very positive, happy and surprisingly energetic post birth and am sure part of this is due to my placenta capsules. Thanks very much Tara."

"I decided to have my placenta encapsulated because of its benefits. Mother Nurture met all my expectations and Tara was a joy to work with! I absolutely plan to do this again and recommend the process to everyone. The cost of encapsulation is worth it because health is priceless. My experience was fantastic!"
